Canon recently announced the upcoming launch of its new PowerShot line-up series, the Canon PowerShot N100, for May 2014. This new camera is designed for the current “selfie” and Instagram- loving market. Its qualities and connectivity options also go head-to-head with today’s smartphones.
The main features of this camera are:
Dual Capture Mode
The Power Shot N100 has two cameras on board that allow the photographer to tell their story visually by becoming part of the image they are capturing. The main camera, which shoots the scene like any other standard camera and a story camera or a sub-camera that faces rearward, shoots the photographer. The image or video taken by the sub-camera can be combined with the main image or subject of the camera, thus creating a picture-in-the-picture effect. The photographer has the option to place the embedded image in any of the four different corners of the main image and with an option of three different sizes to choose from.
This feature works well when taking photos or videos of first birthdays, weddings or other important lifetime events. And you as the photographer would also like to capture and remember the feeling felt as you faithfully document that memorable moment. Simply put, it’s like taking your “selfie” while capturing an image.
Story Highlights Mode
This mode intuitively selects and creates a highlight reel of selected images or movie clips. The user may select the images or clips based on the date they were taken, by theme, by faces through facial recognition or a selection of hand-picked images. The final created movie lasts two minutes if automatically selected or a maximum of five minutes if the files are selected manually. All these are conveniently done and processed within the camera without the need for an external software. It’s that convenient.
Creative Shot Mode
The PowerShot N100 has four filter categories that will help you enhance your image. The filter categories are monochrome, retro, special and natural. And it has a total of 46 filter types to choose from. Once the filter category and filter type have been chosen, it’s as easy as capturing the image and applying your choice of filter. The creative shot mode will apply variations of lighting, composition and color on the image and will give you a choice of five artistic variations to choose from. All these while still retaining the original image. It works similar to Instagram.
Canon’s Mobile Connectivity
With a built-in WiFi, the PowerShot N100 allows you to connect and upload images to your favorite social networks via compatible smartphones, tablets or computers. It also has NFC (Near Field Communication) which means it is compatible with Android devices. This feature allows you to launch the Canon Camera Window App and remotely control the camera using your smartphone or tablet.
In addition to its creative features, the PowerShot N100 comes with a 12.1 Megapixel CMOS sensor and Canon’s DIGIC 6 image processor, similar to those found in a premium fixed-lens camera, the PowerShot G16. This processor enables the camera to focus fast and process images quickly when shooting continuously. It also shoots well in low light, having a maximum aperture of f1.8 at its widest angle of 24mm. With a 5x optical zoom, the PowerShot N100 can go all the way to 120mm.
Lastly, it has a 3-inch LCD touch screen that can tilt up to 90 degrees, allowing the user to view and capture images at unique angles. It also has the ability to record high quality 1080p full HD videos at 60fps.
